The issuance and processing of International Driving Permits (IDP) for Indian citizens are carried out through the IDA.AE Regional Branch in the UAE.
The process does not require any medical examinations, driving tests or additional assessments.
The International Driving Permits (IDP) is issued solely on the basis of a valid Indian National Driving Licenсe.

- A valid Indian National Driving Licence is the sole document required to apply.
Place of issuance
- International Driving Permits for Indian citizens are processed and issued by the IDA.AE Regional Branch, located in the United Arab Emirates (Dubai).
Delivery to India
- Upon completion, the issued IDP is dispatched directly to the applicant's address in India via an authorised courier service.
DEFINITIONS:
National Driver License, in accordance with the relevant International Conventions, is a plastic card with a pinkish background, the size of a standard business card (86 x 54 mm). Obtaining it requires passing exams with the traffic police authorities and it is issued for a period of 10 years. The National Driver's License is made according to international standards but does NOT have the status of an International Driving Permit.
Identification Card for Autotourists from the International Drivers Association confirms the possession of an International Driving Permit and registration in the IDA Central Database. The card is intended for presentation within the Association’s partner network as well as to non-governmental authorities when necessary.
IDP from the International Drivers Association is an internationally recognized document, serving as the official translation of a National Driver's License for driving and car rental abroad. The IDP is an A6-sized booklet that complies with the standards of the Zheneva Convention on Road Traffic and includes translations in 11 international languages.

- Official round seal of the authorized representative office of the International Drivers Association (IDA).
- Security hologram confirming the authenticity of the International Driving Permit (IDP).
- Issuing country name and code matching the holder’s National Driving License (NDL).
- Unique ID number assigned to each document in accordance with the IDA Central Database.
- Validity period — up to 3 years from the date of issuance or until the NDL expires, whichever comes first.
- Date of issuance corresponding to the approved IDP application.
- National Driving License number (NDL) as indicated in the applicant’s records.
- Vehicle categories reflecting those listed on the original NDL.
- Personal information including surname, first name, date and place of birth, and registered address as stated in the application.
- Photograph submitted with the application form.
- Signature sample of the document holder.
- QR code for instant verification of the IDP validity within the official IDA Central Database.
